Why Procrastination Might Actually Be Your Intuition Guiding You.In essence, procrastination is the act of postponing or doing something.  It leaves us feeling like we have something hanging over our heads most of the time that we just didn’t get to.  We have a list of things we were going to do, but most often, move some of those items over to a new list at the end of the day, week, or perhaps month.  But what if…it is our intuitive guidance system and we are trying to override it by feeling like we have to get things done right now?

You are scrolling through the feed, and something catches your eye.  You feel like you have read it before or you were meant to read it right then, but then you wonder if it is meant to distract you from your true purpose, so you try to get back on track yet again with what you were doing.

Maybe looking up inspirational quotes will help you stay inspired, and one catches your eye.

Is procrastination really your intuition guiding you like Bruce Lee seems to be using his chi as guidance?  Do you believe that a force of energy can actually guide you?  Have you ever had that feeling that maybe, just maybe, someone or something is watching out for you?  Then read more.

Signs that Procrastination is Actually Your Intuition Guiding You:

  1. Warning!  Do you get a sense that perhaps you shouldn’t start a project right away or give someone an answer they are waiting for?  Cue visions of the little old lady/witch handing Snow White the poisoned apple.  Maybe someone is really just trying to pass off their toxic items to you, hmm?
  2. The pause feels like it should be there.  In this day and age of shortening up tasks, speech and dial times << remember that?  Cue horrible screeching sound as you waited to connect.  The pause gave you a second to register what might be going on.  That pause gave you a moment to breathe, think, connect to your thoughts and oftentimes, it sent cues to your 5 senses.  But what about your 6th sense?  If you pick up on what is not said, but felt, subtle cues in energy shifts, and reasons for the pause, don’t ignore that.  The pause is connecting the dots for you.
  3. You get a sense that you really should say no.  I will never forget the week-long “pause” I gave my daughter when she kept asking me to go to a friend’s house and spend the night.  I didn’t have any reason whatsoever to say no, but it felt like I should.  I even said to her, I don’t know why, but it feels like I shouldn’t let you go.  Weirdly enough, we had a talk about something I saw in my feed that was bad that week.  Still, at the last moment, I caved.  Since I am not Cher and can’t turn back time, it still feels like slow motion as I got the call from the girl’s mother.  I was ALMOST FREAKING THERE.  My daughter had been in a bicycle accident.  Guess what we had talked about before going?  The thing in my feed that was bad.  It was a bicycle accident.  I floored it, turned into the neighborhood, and slammed on brakes and ran up to the house.  My daughter was covered in blood and I couldn’t tell where she was hurt.  Her shoes, the ones I never let her ride a bike with here at home, were broken as they were sandals.  I won’t describe her toes or her knee, but a demon took over as I said to the other mom was she at least wearing a helmet?  When I found out no, I went a little crazy and scooped her up and flew down the road to the emergency center.  Went a little crazy is probably an understatement to be honest, but there was so much blood that I blamed myself.  So, after hours of things I won’t share here, she was patched up, her foot is okay now, and to this day she has a massive pile of scar tissue on her knee to remind her, and me as well, don’t press mom when she says no.
  4. There are signs if you know where to look.  I have never doubted the signs I was given that week, and have never given in again if something I can’t explain tells me to say no, or go this way, or not take that road, or watch my step here, etc.  The signs might be things like a pause, a weird feeling overcoming you like premonition, a desire to move away from someone, weird dreams that seem to be warnings, a tingling or prickling in between your eyebrows or even the hairs on the back of your neck.  Your Facebook feed feels odd, like you are seeing all the bad stories around this one thing (should have listened to this one).  Yes, I know it is weird, spooky, etc. if this is new to you, but it’s better to be safe than as sorry as I was.  Trust me on this one.  I am very glad it wasn’t worse because the signs I was seeing were around a concussion on a bike that week, and we had literally had the talk about what proper bicycle wear was and my daughter assured me she knew better.

So if all of that doesn’t feel like why you are procrastinating, then go ahead and get things done.

What are you making of your life?

As I was watching this video tonight, I got chills at the part that Les Brown says I think the challenge is to begin to become in alignment with who we  truly are and work diligently to manifest our greatness.” 

I have been saying this for years and I didn’t even know he said it.  When I was given a disease I neither wanted nor appreciated at the young age of 22 years old, all I could think was “Why me?”  Everyone else was happy and having a great time and there I was with SPF 50 trying not to pull a Vampire Diaries moment and burn up as I hit the sun.  We are not going to go into the rest of the diseases and nonsense that followed with my way of thinking, but I will tell you that I was destined for greatness just like this video says. 

I was destined to find my way out of that black put of despair, to fight through pain and agony that lasted years, and to come out on top saying I told you so!  I told you.  I am in control of me.  I am.  So I want you to watch this, and ponder moments you have thought you were not worthy of greatness nor did you deserve it, because the bottom line is, yes you do.

So as I pondered this for my upcoming content in my Head|Heart|Health Club, I have to say to all of you watching this, it’s you.  You got this.  If this inspired you in any way to take more action in your life, let me know.

5 Signs You’re Living Authentically

Why is it so difficult now to spot the real deal?  In a world full of people who are not genuine, how can you channel your inner light?  We all know what kinds of friends we have at a glance, but what about the people who we do business with, or are “friends” with only over the internet, but yet you don’t really know in real life?  The kinds of people who bail on something if it doesn’t serve them, take credit for work they didn’t create or downplay the good points of someone because they want to somehow seem “more than”.

The truth is, there have always been these kinds of people.  However, with the rise of the internet and the social media spotlight, these kinds of people are coming out of the woodwork to build a platform for themselves.  As a friend of mine said recently, it’s kind of like the Wild West.  They are out there selling their snake oil and buyers are lining up.  Instead of worrying about what they are doing, take a closer look at what living authentically really means.

5 Signs You’re Living an Authentic Life:

  1. Upon meeting someone new for the very first time, you try hard to focus on the meaning behind their words.  You want to get to the heart and soul of the matter.  Riches, job titles, clothes and the like are of little interest in who they really are, and you can see past the image they are trying to project.
  2. Your purpose is pure.  Okay, we all have sinned.  Not one of us is perfect, but you know your purpose and it’s coming from a good place.  You work hard to be true around other people, and you honestly expect others to do the same.  You expect a genuine dialog with your friends and even if it’s not always what you want to hear, you are glad you surround yourself with honest people.
  3. As with being true to your word, you expect more than surface level conversations.  If the topics get really into the heart of the matter, you shine best there.  Even if it’s something you would prefer not to discuss, as long as everyone is okay with having a different view on it, you really try to listen.  If you have a strong sense of self-worth as well, then these conversations can be illuminating.  You don’t doubt yourself or your thoughts, you just listen to the other side with interest.  It doesn’t mean it’s going to sway your opinion of the subject matter, but you can still listen without negativity.
  4. You check to make sure you are staying in alignment with your mission.  I was recently asked to do a side job for a pretty decent sum.  It is actually the second time this has happened to me, and I again said no.  Not because I like saying no to money…but because I say no to anything that isn’t going to propel me in the direction of my dreams.  Having more money doing something that is not in alignment with who I am actually just doesn’t feel right for me.  I know what I am meant to do and I choose only to work on projects that align with that.
  5. You aren’t out to please everyone.  Again, this goes with the above reference.  You can say no to something that doesn’t work for you, and realize that it’s okay.  I said no in the nicest possible way even though the person was using his connections as a carrot dangling over me.  At the end of the day, you have be okay with your decisions.  Not the other person.  You can take responsibility for your life.

How to Discover Your Life Purpose in About 20 Minutes

How do you discover your real purpose in life? I’m not talking about your job, your daily responsibilities, or even your long-term goals. I mean the real reason why you’re here at all — the very reason you exist.

Perhaps you’re a rather nihilistic person who doesn’t believe you have a purpose and that life has no meaning. Doesn’t matter. Not believing that you have a purpose won’t prevent you from discovering it, just as a lack of belief in gravity won’t prevent you from tripping. All that a lack of belief will do is make it take longer, so if you’re one of those people, just change the number 20 in the title of this blog entry to 40 (or 60 if you’re really stubborn). Most likely though if you don’t believe you have a purpose, then you probably won’t believe what I’m saying anyway, but even so, what’s the risk of investing an hour just in case?

Here’s a story about Bruce Lee which sets the stage for this little exercise. A master martial artist asked Bruce to teach him everything Bruce knew about martial arts. Bruce held up two cups, both filled with liquid. “The first cup,” said Bruce, “represents all of your knowledge about martial arts. The second cup represents all of my knowledge about martial arts. If you want to fill your cup with my knowledge, you must first empty your cup of your knowledge.”

If you want to discover your true purpose in life, you must first empty your mind of all the false purposes you’ve been taught (including the idea that you may have no purpose at all).

So how to discover your purpose in life? While there are many ways to do this, some of them fairly involved, here is one of the simplest that anyone can do. The more open you are to this process, and the more you expect it to work, the faster it will work for you. But not being open to it or having doubts about it or thinking it’s an entirely idiotic and meaningless waste of time won’t prevent it from working as long as you stick with it — again, it will just take longer to converge.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Take out a blank sheet of paper or open up a word processor where you can type (I prefer the latter because it’s faster).
  2. Write at the top, “What is my true purpose in life?”
  3. Write an answer (any answer) that pops into your head. It doesn’t have to be a complete sentence. A short phrase is fine.
  4. Repeat step 3 until you write the answer that makes you cry. This is your purpose.

That’s it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a counselor or an engineer or a bodybuilder. To some people this exercise will make perfect sense. To others it will seem utterly stupid. Usually it takes 15-20 minutes to clear your head of all the clutter and the social conditioning about what you think your purpose in life is. The false answers will come from your mind and your memories. But when the true answer finally arrives, it will feel like it’s coming to you from a different source entirely.

For those who are very entrenched in low-awareness living, it will take a lot longer to get all the false answers out, possibly more than an hour. But if you persist, after 100 or 200 or maybe even 500 answers, you’ll be struck by the answer that causes you to surge with emotion, the answer that breaks you. If you’ve never done this, it may very well sound silly to you. So let it seem silly, and do it anyway.

As you go through this process, some of your answers will be very similar. You may even re-list previous answers. Then you might head off on a new tangent and generate 10-20 more answers along some other theme. And that’s fine. You can list whatever answer pops into your head as long as you just keep writing.

At some point during the process (typically after about 50-100 answers), you may want to quit and just can’t see it converging. You may feel the urge to get up and make an excuse to do something else. That’s normal. Push past this resistance, and just keep writing. The feeling of resistance will eventually pass.

You may also discover a few answers that seem to give you a mini-surge of emotion, but they don’t quite make you cry — they’re just a bit off. Highlight those answers as you go along, so you can come back to them to generate new permutations. Each reflects a piece of your purpose, but individually they aren’t complete. When you start getting these kinds of answers, it just means you’re getting warm. Keep going.

It’s important to do this alone and with no interruptions. If you’re a nihilist, then feel free to start with the answer, “I don’t have a purpose,” or “Life is meaningless,” and take it from there. If you keep at it, you’ll still eventually converge.

When I did this exercise, it took me about 25 minutes, and I reached my final answer at step 106. Partial pieces of the answer (mini-surges) appeared at steps 17, 39, and 53, and then the bulk of it fell into place and was refined through steps 100-106. I felt the feeling of resistance (wanting to get up and do something else, expecting the process to fail, feeling very impatient and even irritated) around steps 55-60. At step 80 I took a 2-minute break to close my eyes, relax, clear my mind, and to focus on the intention for the answer to come to me — this was helpful as the answers I received after this break began to have greater clarity.

Here was my final answer: to live consciously and courageously, to resonate with love and compassion, to awaken the great spirits within others, and to leave this world in peace.

When you find your own unique answer to the question of why you’re here, you will feel it resonate with you deeply. The words will seem to have a special energy to you, and you will feel that energy whenever you read them.

Discovering your purpose is the easy part. The hard part is keeping it with you on a daily basis and working on yourself to the point where you become that purpose.

If you’re inclined to ask why this little process works, just put that question aside until after you’ve successfully completed it. Once you’ve done that, you’ll probably have your own answer to why it works. Most likely if you ask 10 different people why this works (people who’ve successfully completed it), you’ll get 10 different answers, all filtered through their individual belief systems, and each will contain its own reflection of truth.

Obviously, this process won’t work if you quit before convergence. I’d guesstimate that 80-90% of people should achieve convergence in less than an hour. If you’re really entrenched in your beliefs and resistant to the process, maybe it will take you 5 sessions and 3 hours, but I suspect that such people will simply quit early (like within the first 15 minutes) or won’t even attempt it at all. But if you’re drawn to read this blog (and haven’t been inclined to ban it from your life yet), then it’s doubtful you fall into this group.

Give it a shot! At the very least, you’ll learn one of two things: your true purpose in life -or- that you should unsubscribe from this blog. 😉  (his…not mine)  Update 8/8/06:  Be sure to read the follow-up to this article, especially if you’re having trouble with this particular approach (there’s an alternative method you can use):  The Meaning of Life: Discover Your Purpose.

**** Aimee’s Note:  I just was feeling really off today, and my business mentor told me about this site.  I did this exercise…and I was already a bit raw.  However, what I came up with at the end really had me in tears.  Because when I added one extra sentence, I just knew it and it shocked me.  Soooo.  Here it is: “To change the face of invisible disease and be a role model.”  <<< the last part is what I have struggled with and it brought me to tears.  I would love to know how you feel about this.
